Local Historical Place Register

The Rural Community of Upper Miramichi has partnered with Community, Wellness & Sports' Heritage Branch in a government-funded project that has written down the history on some of our areas many older building and structures. The Local Historic Place Register (LHPR) includes 12 of our homes, storefronts, one-room schoolhouses and churches in Upper Miramichi.

The principal purpose of our LHPR is to identify, promote and celebrate our local history. All places and sites on the Register have influenced the development of our community. Building design, cultural influence, past events or the people associated to the place are all important considerations. The current property owner's permission has been obtained for each property.

The story of each place and a photo is located below. The same information will be placed on the provincial electronic website-- www.historicplaces.ca.

The Rural Community of Upper Miramichi would like to thank the province for providing our area with this opportunity to remember some of our most historic places. We would also like to thank Joan MacKenzie, Project Coordinator, who conducted the research, spoke with area residents, and wrote the stories about Upper Miramichi.

If you would like more information, please feel free to contact the Rural Community office at 506.369.9810. We hope you enjoy reading a bit of our important history.
