Welcome to Upper Miramichi
Welcome to the official website for Rural Community of Upper Miramichi.
Situated along the Miramichi River, the Rural Community of Upper Miramichi is approximately 45 minutes to Fredericton and an hour to Miramichi City along Route 8. We boast the geographical center of the province and we are one of the largest incorporated areas in terms of land mass, with a total of 16 communties. They include Boiestown, Astle, Bloomfield Ridge, McNamee, New Bandon, Taxis River, Priceville, Carroll’s Crossing, Ludlow, Holtville, Hayesville, McGivney, Parker’s Ridge, Porter Cove, Big Hole Brook, and Nelson Hollow.
Our community has traditionally been grounded in the lumbering industry with many stories of the log drives and logging camps. The Miramichi River has been and continues to be a famous attraction and has helped create a culture that recognizes and respects all that this water system has to offer.
Today, the 2400 residents have pulled together to ensure a united voice in order to protect our way of life and move forward to educate, live and work in this area. Residents continue to work in the forest and fishing industries but they also work in the tourism and recreation areas as well as small business operators.
Whether you are a resident, tourist, or potential business developer, we invite you to review the information in this website. We welcome feedback and ideas for improvement.
We would also invite you to visit our area. Perhaps you’re interested in the history of the forest industry in our area—The Central NB Woodmen’s Museum is a great opportunity to learn first-hand about this way of life. Or you may wish to see attractions that are the largest of their kind in the province like Fall Brook Falls, a 30 metre plunge at 90 degree slope, or the Priceville Footbridge, the longest suspension footbridge in New Brunswick.
Whatever your reason, take the time to enjoy the scenery and the people of Upper Miramichi. You won’t be disappointed.
